Unsigned Hype 2018 NYC HS Basketball Showcase Tips Off Next Friday

NEW YORK, NY (March 29, 2018) – Next Friday, April 6, more than 40 of NYC’s top high school senior basketball players will compete in the 6th Annual Unsigned Hype Senior Games. The event, which features two showcase games played back-to-back, will be held at George Westinghouse High School in Brooklyn, NY. The first game will tip off at 6:00 pm ET, followed by the second game at 7:30 pm ET. Admission is open to the general public and seating is first come, first served.

Founded in 2012 by NYC basketball coach James Barrett, the Unsigned Hype Senior Games has aided over 60 previously unsigned high school seniors in earning athletic scholarships totaling over $300,000.

The Unsigned Hype Senior Games is one of three events held during Big Apple Sports College Exposure Week 2018. The events are hosted by Big Apple Sports, a NYC non-profit organization focused on supporting local youth through athletics.

NEW YORK, NY (February 22, 2017) – true athelite® today announced it will be the official outfitter of The 5th Annual Unsigned Hype Senior Games in Brooklyn, NY. The event will feature over 40 of NYC’s best high school senior basketball players. For the event, the players will be split into four All-Star teams to make up two All-Star games played back to back. The games will be held on Friday, April 7 starting at 6:00 PM EST at George Westinghouse HS in Brooklyn, NY. Admission is open to the general public. This will be the fourth consecutive year true athelite® will be sponsoring the event.

“Over the years, this event has not only been a platform to showcase top NYC basketball talent, but it also provides NYC youth with a chance at earning college scholarships,” said Andrew Arcangel, founder of true athelite®. “The most rewarding part about this event is seeing kids getting scholarships because of this opportunity.”

The 40+ student-athletes who will participate in the games are selected by Thomas “Tippy” McTernan, founder of Big Apple Sports and James Barrett, founder of the Unsigned Hype Senior Games and executive director of TEAM M.A.G.I.C., a blossoming NYC AAU basketball program.

“There are over 60 Unsigned Hype alumni who have gone on to get college scholarships and our goal is to keep that number going up,” said James Barrett. “Our goal is to turn the Unsigned Hype of today into Signed Leaders of tomorrow.”

The event will be hosted by New York Strangers Sports Organization, a non-profit based in Chinatown. With over 1,000 players and 5,000 fans gathering at Seward Park, the tournament’s energy and excitement will stimulate a great deal of attention and pride for the Asian-American community.
